Joan

Meet award winning artist Joan Polishook who presents her impressionistic interpretations, reflecting her love of nature.  A plein air painter, her work includes scenes of the rural countryside with an emphasis on old barns, woods, fields and waterscape, the majesty of tree and plant life.

Perhaps you will recognize some of the sites that inspire the artist as she relaxes and communes with nature.

Joan received her BA in Art from the City University of New York.  She was an early childhood teacher for many years, before retiring to give full attention to her painting.

Joan’s work is on permanent display at Grey Towers NHS, Milford, PA and the Dorflinger-Suydam Sanctuary.  She has had solo shows at the Dutot Museum, Kettle Creek, Golden Fish and Looking Glass Galleries. Her work has also been exhibited at the PA state capital, the Chautauqua Institute and the Westfield  N.J. Borough. The artist’s drawings and paintings  reach far and wide into private art collections in the US and abroad. Her first and second place awards, magazine and program covers are outstanding amid the numerous prizes she has won for her prolific art works.

A recent interest in writing lead artist Joan Polishook to compile a heart-warming memoir, The House on the Sixth Floor, published in 2009 by Lulu.com. The book recounts the early experiences that shaped her as a person and influenced her as an artist during her growing up years in the Bronx, New York.
In an easy-going flow of words, memorable stories have evolved, that paint pictures of scenes in an era familiar to many. The stories did not stop with the first book and in November of 2012 Bouquet, short stories sown from the seeds of memory was published. Bouquet continues to focus upon life in the Bronx during the 40s and 50s with additional in-depth descriptions of specific characters, outstanding events and material things that have made lasting impressions upon the author.
Both books may be ordered on line from www.Lulu.com and www.Amazon.com or may be purchased directly from Joan Polishook (at a discounted price).
